Our Story
Hello Friends, Family, & Partners,
On October 1st 2011, 163 teams played road hockey at Ontario Place on a quest to conquer cancer in our lifetime. The inaugural event was a huge success, raising over $2.4 million for Princess Margaret Hospital and the Canadian Cancer Society. Last year with your support, Team Tommy and Team Longo's raised a combined total of $57,000 and were among the top five teams for fundraising. Although our performance didn?t quite measure up with 2 wins and 3 losses, this year we hope to improve on our record, as well as achieve a fundraising goal of over $45,000.
The story behind our teams dedication to this event is a sad yet inspiring story. On January 30th, 2011,Tommy Longo lost a tough fought battle to Leukemia. To some of us he was our loving Nonno, to others an amazing father, and to many he was a great friend. Regardless of who he was to whom, he was an incredible man that treated every person he met with the upmost respect and a man that had a huge heart and a passion for what ever he did. There is not a day that goes by where we don't think about him or miss him. Losing him was one of the toughest thing our family had to go through, and the past 2 years has been the most difficult two years for all of us to get through. However, with the great support we received from our family and friends we battled through it, and now we are coming together as one big family in order to fight back against cancer. We appreciate everyone who stood by us through that difficult time and everyone who has been there for us over the last 2 years. Words can not describe how thankful we are to know such great people who are there for us through thick and thin, so thank you.
As we go on through life we are all going to face challenges that are hard to overcome. Cancer is a challenge that every person and family has had to face at one time or another in their life. We believe that in our lifetime we can battle through it and beat this terrible disease, and Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer is a great place to start. So please join us and help us battle back against this disease, help us as we drop the puck in our battle against Cancer.
