What You Need to Play

Dress for comfort. It’s a long day and we play, rain, shine or sleet. Running shoes and a stick are truly all that is required for ROAD HOCKEY TO CONQUER CANCER, but the options are definitely worth investigating.

You will receive a ROAD HOCKEY TO CONQUER CANCER jersey on Game Day when you sign in. You may choose to wear this RHCC jersey or create your own unique team jerseys previous to the event.

Here are some basics that should be considered:

Spare socks: Five games is a lot of hockey and you may wish to change your socks between games. Wet socks or socks that chafe can be particularly irritating.

Sweatshirt or jacket: the temperatures by the lake can drop quickly at dusk, and if the day is cool to begin with, you will want the added warmth.

If you plan on wearing shorts, consider bringing a pair of jeans or track pants should the weather turn chilly or wet. Conversely, if you plan to wear long pants, bring shorts in case you find yourself too warm.

Extra stick: Should yours break, we will be selling extra sticks on site, or you can hope to borrow from another participant, but we advise bringing a spare stick.

Gloves: Whether it is hockey gloves or garden gloves, protecting your hands is always a good idea.

Helmet: You can never be too careful in protecting your head and face. While helmets are not required for players, they are strongly recommended.

Mouthguard: A stray stick or a misguided ball can damage your teeth. While optional, we highly recommend the wearing of a mouthguard.

Jock or Jill: Why take a chance on hurting the most intimate of areas?

Knee pads: A tumble on asphalt can leave a nasty graze.

Towel: Running around for any length of time will cause a player to perspire and if the weather is inclement, you’ll need that towel even more so.

Goaltenders: the equipment worn by goaltenders is completely up to each participant within the realm of ‘normal hockey’. Goalie pads, trappers, blockers, chest protection and cup are all allowed and encouraged, but some netminders may prefer a baseball glove and a goalie stick. ALL GOALTENDERS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR A HELMET AND A MASK WHEN IN NET.

NOTE: You are responsible for providing your own equipment. The ROAD HOCKEY TO CONQUER CANCER organizers cannot provide individuals with personal hockey equipment.

There will be a safe area at the event venue in which equipment and sticks can be stored between games.
